tank top obsession

I might I have a slight tank top obsession! I love them! I got this fun striped tank last weekend at Target and I'm loving it. I bought it a bit over-sized and I really like that I can wear it with a pair of leggings and its long enough to cover my butt. My favorite thing about tank tops... that you can honestly wear them all year long! During the warmer months, wear them by themselves with shorts. In the colder months, pair with a sweater or blazer. So easy and versatile!

vintage jean jacket

My mom was going through one of the closets at her house and said she had found a jean jacket and wanted to know if it was mine and if she should donate it. I took a look at it, and realized this jean jacket was from my high school days (I'm now a college graduate, so that was a long time ago). I don't really remember ever wearing this jean jacket, or thinking it was stylish or cool back in high school. I wanna say my mom bought it for me for Christmas one year. But now, I think it's super cute, and it still fits! It's crazy how fashion trends change and how also our own personal style develops.

I now have two jean jackets and they are honestly my go-to items. It's so easy to throw one on and they go with everything! I've been wearing mine with jeans, leggings, colored denim, skirts and dresses. Here are a few past looks:

summer to-do list

I saw a great idea on another blog I follow, to make a summer to-do list of fun activities, and places I want to try. So I'm making my own. Check it out! Maybe you'll be inspired to make your own!
  • Go camping
  • Make my own ice cream
  • Use the grill more
  • Go to an outdoor concert
  • Go wine tasting
  • Visit at least 4 breweries
  • Take outdoor blog photos
  • Plan a winter trip
  • Make sun tea
  • Go on a hike

Pretty sure everything I'm wearing here is from Forever 21.
XXI FTW!

business attire

I had a friend recently message me asking how to style some work appropriate outfits. From what she told me, it sounds like the dress-code where she works is pretty strict business professional. I'm lucky that I work in an environment with basically no dress-code. So, I'm not by any means, an expert on this. But I went ahead and searched Pinterest and created 3 outfit collages that I feel are appropriate for a business setting.

I would start any work wardrobe with classic black trousers and a matching black blazer. You can never go wrong with this. My friend mentioned that she has a hard time creating outfits that aren't boring. Always remember that color, accessories, and shoes can make any outfit exciting! Even though the foundation of this outfit is black and somewhat simple, it's not boring at all.

Floral prints are a great, work appropriate pattern! Mix them with fun colors and simple cropped pants. I also love stripes, polka-dots and animal prints. Just because you're in a work environment, doesn't mean you can't have fun with patterns. I chose simple gold jewelry to go with this outfit and fun, red shoes.

Make a statement at work with bright neon colors and fun prints! I love the idea of a neutral pencil skirt paired with a neon sweater. Layer a collared shirt underneath for a classic look. Remember leopard print can be worn as a neutral. So I threw an animal print purse and belt into the mix. Bright jewelry finishes off this fun look.

I hope this post was somewhat helpful. Remember, work attire doesn't have to be boring. Have fun with your wardrobe!

All of these collages were created on Polyvore. Check them out here.

barn dance anyone

I just got some new jewelry from Stella & Dot and I wanted to show it off in this post!. If you're not familiar with Stella & Dot, they sell boutique style jewelry and accessories. A ton of celebrities wear their stuff, so I guess I feel a bit cool. Check them out! I mainly bought bracelets, because I don't own very many, and I wanted to expand my collection. I'm loving the gold renegade cluster bracelet, and got earrings to match. I'm really happy with the pieces I bought. I'm allergic to nickel, which most cheap jewelry is made of, so it's really nice knowing they are high quality pieces that will last a long time and won't break me out. They also came in cute packaging - I'm a sucker for well designed packaging!

By the way, I felt a bit country in this outfit... I guess I know what I'm wearing if I get invited to a barn dance.

a hair tutorial

Let me just start out by explaining my hair type... this tutorial may not work for everyone. First of all, I have A LOT of hair! It's thick, coarse and frizzy. My hair isn't too oily, so I usually go 3-4 days before washing my hair.

This hair tutorial is for those awesome, more casual curls, and it doesn't use a curling iron, but instead a straightener. The reason why I love curling my hair this way, is  1.) my straightener gets way hotter than my curling iron  2.) it's super fast  3.) it produces fun, beach style waves

Because my straightener gets so hot, I usually wash, dry and straighten my hair the day before. My hair is then less frizzy, and has some natural oils in it.

1. Start by heating up your straightener - needs to be a smaller straightener. You will also need some dry shampoo (I use TRESemme), hair spray (whatever brand you prefer), and you might need some Moroccan Oil if you have really dry hair.

2. Spray your roots with the dry shampoo and comb it in with your fingers. This just helps make your style last longer and look less greasy.

3. I like to split my hair into two and work back to front. Then when one piece is curled, I can throw it to the back, out of my way. Gather a piece of hair and start about a quarter down from the root. I usually curl my hair to the back, away from my face, all in the same direction.

4. Begin just like you would if you were to normally straighten your hair, but twist your wrist down, back and around in a curling motion. At a certain point, your wrist won't be able to turn anymore. This is when, with the help of your other hand, you can re-position your hand, back to normal.

5. You can now slowly pull down on the straightener and you should be left with a curl. It's okay to leave the ends a bit straight. It will give your hair that beachy look. Move the curled hair to the back, and grab another strand, repeating above steps, until one side is completely curled.

Move to the other side and repeat steps.

6. I like to come back in and touch up some spots, especially the top layer, making sure all hair is curled.

7. Comb through your hair with your fingers to loosen curls. Add hairspray. I like to spray up into the bottom of my hair and scrunch it a bit. The hairspray should help smooth and control any fly-aways. If your hair is drier, than a moroccan oil may help instead. Just remember a little goes a long way.

8. And you're done! Altogether, this usually takes me about 10 mintes or less.

bows on bows

If you know me, then you probably know that I have a slight obsession for bows... mainly hair bows, but, to be honest, I'd probably wear any kind. Here I'm wearing a bow on my tank, in my hair, and even my earrings are bows! I saw the bow tank top at H&M and knew I had to have it. Other than having a giant bow on the front, it's animal print! Another one of my favorite things. What do you guys think of bows?

sun-day fun-day

Heading to a barbecue today, and this maxi skirt felt like the perfect outfit. This is the first time I've worn a maxi skirt and it took me about a half hour of trying on different tops and looking through my pinterest boards this morning to figure it out. I personally think a tie-front shirt with a maxi skirt goes great together. How would you wear a maxi skirt?

polka dots and sequins

Hey all! Happy Tuesday! I'm very proud of todays outfit. Wanna know why? Because I got this polka dot button up at Goodwill for only $3.50. That's crazy!!! I figured something had to be wrong with it... a missing button, a large stain, a hole? But there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. SCORE! I may be doing more shopping at Goodwill if I can find items like this.

Oh yah, did you see my sequin jean shorts? I saw these at Target, and knew I had to have them. They were also on the cheap side, less than $15. I might have a mild addiction to shiny things.

weekend denim

This outfit is a simple denim weekend look that I dressed up with a bit of new jewelry I purchased yesterday. Isn't that necklace fun? I got it at Forever 21! I've learned that when I can't decide what to wear, it's easiest to choose something basic, like jeans and a white tee. Then dress it up with accessories! A fun necklace, shoes and a pair of sunglasses can take a simple look to a new level.
