yes, that is snow in the background

These pictures are from last week, and yes, that is snow in the background. It's the end of March and Portland, Oregon is still getting random snow. A bit annoying when places across the US are having record highs for March and I'm stuck wearing coats and scarves.

Yes, I'm a copycat... I saw this cute outfit last night worn by Kristin Cavallari, while browsing my favorite site, Pinterest, and realized I could totally wear that! Although I can't have my shirt un-buttoned as much as Kristin (without a tank underneath) or you would be getting a sneak peak of my goodies.

I quickly wanted to mention how much I LOVE scarves! It's a bit chilly here in Portland, OR and this morning it was so easy to grab this scarf and throw it on while I was outside. Scarves have to be one of my favorite accessories, mainly because they can be worn in all seasons. It's a cold winter day, throw on a flanel or knit scarf. It's a beautiful spring day, try a lighter weight floral print scarf. No matter what season, you can make a scarf work! They have the ability to tie an outfit together, and with so mainly options out there now, you can let your personality shine through.

look ma, purple pants!

I finally got myself some colored denim. I've been searching for the perfect pair, and here they are. Already loving these bright purple pants from Kohls, especially for spring! Next on my list, a pair of mint green jeans.

I've also included a pic of my makeup. Purple is the new pink!

can you spot the differences?

 Did you spot any differences between the photos? Okay, so there's only one difference... my hair. And maybe the lighting as the sun set in the background. My hair started out straight. Then I looked through the photos and decided I didn't like how it looked. So I curled it. As I was curling my hair, I lost track of time and realized we had to jet to a family function. I quickly got some photos of my outfit with my newly curled hair, but only a few. I wanted to include some of the shots with the straight hair since there were better close-ups of my actual outfit.

Moral of the story... don't loose track of time or you'll have a crazy mis-match of photos.

NEW JEAN JACKET!!! And I'm loving it! It's from Kohls and was on sale for about $28. It's a great piece, especially for spring. I can't wait to pair it with a cute sundress and wedges.

This outfit was definitely on the cheap! Most of the pieces are from Ross. I have to be in the right mood to shop there, but I've found lot's of great, affordable pieces there. I wanna say the dress was $14, the boots were about $18, and the belt was about $5. This just proves you don't have to spend tons of money to look good...

I love when the weather is nice enough that I get to take some shots outside on our deck. Usually it's too dark when I get home from work, but lately it's been a bit lighter out. So stay tuned for more outdoor shots.

don't be afraid of patterns

Lately I've been trying to be a bit more adventurous with wearing patterns. I've seen a lot of cute ways to pattern mix, so I gave it a try. Few things I've learned when pattern mixing:

1.) Limit Your Color Palette - this keeps things simple

2.) Use Contrasting Patterns (if they are too similar, they seem to just clash)

3.) 2-3 Patterns Max
